Best Hikes Near Canmore

World-Class Hiking at Your Doorstep

Canmore is one of the Canadian Rockies' premier hiking destinations, with trailheads just minutes from town. From challenging summit scrambles with panoramic views to gentle lakeside walks, there's a trail for every ability. Canmore Rocky Mountain Inn makes the perfect basecamp -- hike early, then return to a calm, comfortable hotel to rest and recharge.

Ha Ling Peak & Grassi Lakes

Ha Ling Peak is Canmore's signature hike -- a steep but well-maintained trail that rewards with sweeping 360-degree views of the Bow Valley, Spray Lakes, and the surrounding Rockies. The round trip takes most hikers 4-6 hours. For something shorter, Grassi Lakes is a family-friendly favourite. The 4 km round trip leads to two striking turquoise pools at the base of limestone cliffs, with ancient rock art along the way. Both trailheads are a short drive from the hotel.

East End of Rundle & Beyond

The East End of Rundle (EEOR) is a classic scramble offering stunning views of the Bow Valley without the crowds of more popular trails. It's a challenging but non-technical route best suited to experienced hikers comfortable with exposure and loose rock. For a more relaxed day, the trails around the Canmore Nordic Centre offer gentle paths through the forest, perfect for morning walks or trail running. Further afield, Kananaskis Country opens up hundreds of kilometres of trails through pristine alpine wilderness, all within a short drive.
